I was thinking...

Can I use use regular on-off-on tumbler for electric guitar ?

I think it's no difference for electric guitar what potentiometer. Only difference is

resistance and linear or logarithmic. Guitar is mono.  It's hard do get for me electric guitar electronics.

I can get easily pickups from any guitar store. Sepcial electronics made for guitar is more expensive.

yup   you  can  use a regular   toggle switch ,   hell  even a light switch if ya  want

It's not true, however, that any potentiometer will work. The pots in commercially made electric guitars are almost always 250k or 500k (most common).

I think a 100-ohm pot would function as an on-off switch, however, so that might be exactly what you want. :-)

I need a 3 way toggle switch to change guitar pickups. I would like to use 3 way tumbler toggle switch. 3 way tumblers are regularly on-off-on. My question is can I use it how I want ?

Pickups are passive not active.

it will  work  ..  but   i  believe  3 way   tumblers are    (up = one channel on only ) - (mid =  all  off)  (down =other channel on only)   with this set up  there would be no  way to  run both   pups at the same time .  .

you would need   real  3   way ,,  not a 2 way and an  total off .

or convert the off   position  to   all on  .

but its early  ..   lol , and  i went  through  this like 5  times  in my head  and   am  starting to  confuse myself .

so  maybe someone else  can verify   that .

You need a on/on/on type toggle switch

And wire 1 pickup across the top 2 lugs 1 across the botomm 2 lugs and the middle 2 are wired to the output

These are generally more expensive than a normal guitar 3 way.

Your other option would be an on/ off switch for each pickup
This is for 3pickups but gives you the idea

Simple on/off switches are really cheap.
Suntekstore are cheap with free delivery

Note in the above on/off wiring they are using on/on switches with one on to earth to cut down hum I guess.
