Picked this up today for $15.50 at a local thrift store. They had no idea if the electronics worked. The nut holding the input jack was missing. Took a bit of effort because I could only get two screws loos from the pickguard. Got a nut on it. Works! The bridge pickup's output actually distorts my amp. Both pots will have to be replaced. Tone pot doesn't work at all. Volume is real scratchy. Frets are in great shape. Neck needs little adjusting. Tuners work perfectly. Very smooth. Missing the spring and trem arm. The bridge is the only thing I'd want to replace. Just a folded piece of metal with grooves in it. It has hight adjustment only. Hoping one of my 'tune-o-matics' will fit it. A bit dinged up. But all in all in great shape. Other than looking like it's been in a garage for the past 40 years.

The serial no. is '410'. Will have to find out if this means it's number 410. The tenth guitar from the fourth year they made them or it's number 41 of all the guitars they made. Japan has confusing serial numbers.

yup  ,  with global   you  will  find  that's  more  of a  "model"  number  than a serial number  ,  it's not  uncommon to  find another  global  guitar  with the same   number .

its a great  find  .  you  should  post   and share  it  in my  group  . someone there  may  have  more info  on it  for  ya  .. or  parts etc ..  .  http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/teisco-lovers-group

Nice score.

Very cool find! Had a hankerin' for another old Japanese guitar for a while now... A friend snagged an old 'longhorn' style, I think it was branded Encore, from the local GC before I could grab it. These used to be everywhere, now everyone wants $200 and up for them. Local guy found an old Supro for $80 at a Goodwill too. I just never seem to be the right place right time for these.

The pickups in these rock. I've got a couple gold foils and one that's like the Global here, but more rounded, in my parts box. Going to use them on CBG's eventually. The Global should make a killer slide guitar, and you'll get a lot more character out of your fuzz pedals with this lil' monster...

Thanks everyone. I'm still banging on this beast. Don't think this guitar was ever really played. Very few and extremely small indents in the frets. All the marring on the finish could have been from improper storage. Not your normal playing wear and tare. The guitar plays very well. Nice string action. Not able to lower the strings any farther. The pickups sit on top of the pickguard. None adjustable. If I get an adjustable bridge for this I'll shim the neck pocket. Rase the fretboard up over the pickups.

Shean, I've already rocked this thing threw my Catelinbread Dirty Little Secret. (Marshal in a box ) And both Devi Ever 'Vintage Fuzz Master and Atomizer. Not sure if the pickups are P13's or P90's. But do LOVE the rasping growl they give. Surprised at the output of the bridge pickup. Actually overdrives my amp.

The Anonymous Pick. Yes, I belong to that group. Most of my guitars are old Japanese builds.

Wayfinder. The two pickup selector switches are awesome! Until you end up with both of them off. Still a great old look. Sorry dude. Not for sale. but nice try. : )

Looks like I'll be able to make a platform for a Fender style hard tail bridge. The string spacing lines up perfectly. I don't want to permanently modify this guitar. The platform for the new bridge will be held in place by the strings. If that doesn't work I'll put screws in it to match the existing bridge holes. Not looking to get parts for the whammy. This is an awesome playing guitar with the worst bridge design ever.

Guitarfetish.com has a trem just like that one for 25 dollars. Their pickups are great as well.

One guy over on the TDPRI forum rebuilt one of these MIJ guitar and replaced the bridge with one for a Fender Mustang/Jaguar guitar. But he had to remove the bushings, fill the holes and drill for the new bushings.

Hardtail bridge is a lot easier. Is it a top loader or a string through? I did a string through one one of my builds and use brass screw inserts from Lowe's on the back of the guitar for string ferrules.

Paul Craig. It'll be a top load hard tail. I don't want to modify the body at all. Have two plans. The first is to drill thew the hardtail to match the existing holes. If thats not possible then plan two. Put slugs in the existing holes that would fit into holes on the bottom of the wood platform. I'll check out Guitarfetish.

Wayfinder. The bridge makes it impossible to tune correctly. There's not a single string with proper intonation. Making everything from the fifth fret up useless. Like listening to a violin player play out of tune. I want to be able to record with it. But as it stands just playing with a pre recorded track sounds bad. The guitar plays and sounds to good to leave it like it is.

If you look closely at the pics the bridge is noting more than a folded piece of metal with notches in it. Straight across. The only adjustment is up and down. Theres no way to ever get this guitar in tune all the way up the neck.

Glue two popsicle sticks together, dremel notch it lengthwise after cutting and drilling it to fit, then use an intonated acoustic bridge in the slot, or cut your own. Should get you closer on intonation, you can file for individual height, and it'll still be stock and vintage looking.

I'd do the popsicle sticks, then six little triangles of wood and adjust each to intonate. That'll take longer. Plenty of those guitar had functional wooden bridges.

My buddy has a Global shaped like a Les Paul. About the same burst color. His is plywood. I'll see if I can get a pic the next time I'm over there.

Hahaha.. Nice. Yeah replace the bridge and tail with a tuneomatic setup, check the nut distance with the scale.. Resolder and replace broken electrics. Winner.

I get given these 'finds' quite often by people, usually with the instructions to "see what you can do with this" .. Shame that after I bring it back to sweetness it usually sits in a corner waiting for the guy to remember how to make a C shape chord thingy.
