  • As long as you have spare string length to wind around the tuner's capstan you are good distance-wize.

  • On my Fender 6 string acoustic, 1.85", on the CBG I built, 1.3" (both measurements are nut to center of tuning peg).

  • It doesn't really matter Jon,most important is to make it as straight a line as you can to the line of the string, the sharper the angle from that line, the more likelihood you'll need string tee's,of course you don't want it that far that the string is too short,a normal '3 in a line ' tuner set is about 1 1/2 " centres,so 3" overall, add about 2" from nut to 1st key, makes it about 5" if your tuners are under,or 2" if your tuners are on top of the headstock.[by under or over,i mean as you look at the headstock from the front, like in the audience]

    • Thank you Darryl. This clears up a question I've had for a while!
      • that 2" i mentioned to the first tuner,is probably a bit short unless the string is real straight, but i've got many not much further

        • The string break to the first tuner from the top of the neck is pretty high so I'm a bit concerned ...usually just eyeball it..
