I am planning a cookie tin guitar/banjo. I’m wondering if it would have a better sound if I use the bottom of the tin as the front of the guitar, and put the lid at the back. Has anybody tried it both ways?

  • Hi, I cant see much difference really if both the front and back are tin. It's going to sound tinnie either way. If you want to see the graphics on the front of the tin, use the  lid as the top,

if you want an open back banjo, leave the lid  off of the tin, and use the back as the top. You may have to beef up the tin though.

I have always had the lid as the top due to the graphics wanting to be visible. I think the top is also a bit more thicker than the bottom of a tin.
