I have been stalking the forums for the last month drooling over everyones instruments.

Finally I have decided to take on my own build!

It was hard to find cigar boxes in Australia so I decided to make the box myself.

I have also installed a homemade truss rod (aluminium channel)

Would love to know what everyone thinks. Has anyone else made their own box?

More photos to come.

  • I make my own boxes. Out of lauan plywood. They sound great. Building yer own allows you freedom from the cigar box lack of depth, and lets you build a better resonating chamber.
  • Have made my own number plate resonator box. Get my boxes off ebay or gumtree.com.au

  • I use lucite 5 min. epoxy on my bone / wood slides..i can tell you it works awesome...they don`t come apart !!!!!!

    • I might have to give that a try on my next build, thanks for the tip. hopefully the poly glue works ok with this one.

  • Looks great...hope you epoxied that aluminum channel in.

    • Polyurethane glue actually... I read that epoxy doesn't work as well with porous surfaces like wood.

  • I make most of my own boxes and have tried home made truss rod which workes fine. There are no rules, use what you like, whatever you can find or have lying around.
