Boat load of fun on newly started build

Here is my 2nd first build, I have two first time builds going at the same time so when I hit a brain buster on one build I go to the other.....

I'm actually further along then what the pics show, not by much tho.....I'm really enjoying this build sense it is more of a challenge......the box is from a hobby store......it will have piezo and mag (home made by me) pickups, red oak neck (scarf joint) and cherry? fretboard.......as plans stand now.....vol. and 3 way switch.

What a great build - I haven't seen this idea before.

However you add them (either embedded or linked) I am just pleased you have taken the time to make, take photos and show the rest of us what you are making.

Thanks for the info on having pics show right on up without clicking, much better way........and secondly thanks for looking and the replies......this is such a fun build and at every turn I'm hoping I don't screw it up...as you can see the top is cedar, I think the box is pine?.....I'm hoping to post updated pics sometime this weekend, mainly work on the box, been afraid to attempt the scarf joint cut, but I did make a jig for doing it on my table saw.

Nice looking build there captain!
Could you please provide your sources for the materials, such as the cherry etc, for those of us having a hard time finding good ones.
I will takes pics of my jigs for scarf joints and taper cuts next time I am set up to produce some peices.

That is going to be a great looking instrument. One question, why not run the neck clear to the stern of the boat and leave as much open area as possible? Seems like that would give more sound to it,or are you going to add electronic?

Mark, I have purchased a lot of very nice board, all different species off e-bay, search "thin wood" or "thin boards" . This was about a year ago but there were some good providers than.

Just too some more pics, these seem a little blurry but one can get the drift...... The piezo pickup is one I ordered from China I think....non active preamp, whatever that means w/ Vol. and Tone controls. You can also see the makings of the meg PU. and the mounting surface I made from a piece of leftover cedar. the top part of the mad PU is just a piece I cut from a large Popsicle stick.....pine I guess. May make one from cedar. BTW..I have also started on a pickup winder that will use a old dremel tool. I've added some support to the tip part of the boat box. And I have drilled for the 1/4 in jack. and drilled a couple holes in the large support inside the box for wiring.

Here is a couple pics of my Scarf Joint jig?.....the table saw I'm working with has a very small table top to work on, I've tested the jig on scrap and it seems to work Ok, but just Ok.....still scared to do it on my keeper neck. I made a brace to screw down to hold the neck in place, thats the metal thing w/ screws....

Off Topic is a pic of a guitar stand I built...it holds 7 to 9 instruments and it folds up for ease of travel and is adjustable (neck rests and separators) for different sized instruments.
