I’ve built a fretless CBG using a flat humbucker pickup, which I connect to a CB Gitty amp. However whenever I play it, as soon as I put the slide onto a string, the result is a “ping” like sound. This may well be due to my playing inexperience, but no matter how gentle I am with the slide, the effect is the same. You can imagine what it’s like when I move up/down the fretboard. Can anyone offer any solutions?

  • is the slide metal? are the strings earthed? it could be a static discharge to the string causing it to ping???

a video from your ph of the sound and what you are doing might help.

  • If the sound is muted, then you may need downward pressure on the strings? What are you tuned to, is the string tension overly tight?

  • Hi, with slide playing laying a finger across the strings , behind the bar, as you contact the strings my help. If not it it may be a pickup or wiring set up issue. Is the pickup too close the the string?
