I am working on building a bedpan guitar. When I look at photos of others I can not see a pick up, this would lead me to believe that a Peizo is used. Any thoughts of trying to put in a regular guitar pick up. I thought if I reinforced the back of the neck I could cut a slot in the top of the neck and put it in the slot.   Or maybe just stick with a Piezo stuck to the underside of the neck.                      Cheers Ron.

  • That is a nice looking pan, Don. I would agree with you just trying to figure the logistics of it. I have one more regular CBG and I will be ready to give it a try.
That one looks like it is a all metal neck, something I did not consider.
    Cheers Ron.

Personally I don't like piezos stuck to necks. Way to much finger noise, very distracting. Actually the bedpan acts as an acoustic resonator.

  • I just saw a pic of a bed pan guitar with a pick up....I want to build one so bad, but I just can't run downtown to pick up a bed pan. Here is how I would do it if I had the bedpan here in my hands. Peizo, no doubt about it, and a pick up. If you want to get real fancy, hook up a switch to change between the two. Take the neck and cut it in half toward the end.....take another peice of the neck wood (oak, pine etch) and glue it on the undre side and leave enough of a space for the pick up. So now, you have a pickup build into the neck. Glue it up and screw the neck together and you have a prtty rad guitar. I make all my necks like this, but I don't really stick to the traditional cigar box....I guess you can say I am thinking outside the box....ha...ha....lol.
  • make sure you shield it good or youl blow your ear drums out, trust me.
  • Yes, that's what I recommend people do with my pickups if the neck seems like it's getting a little thin after cutting the slot for the pickup. On the plus side, it makes a CBG balance better. Probably not an issue with a bedpan though.
