I am planning somewhat of a spiritual journey this summer. Sometime in the middle of July, I will be hiking up into the mountains for a week all by myself. The plan is to commune with God, write in my journal and play my git. My question is, do you guys have any suggestions for strapping my gitty onto my backpack with the most protection possible for the 3 mile hike into camp?

If you want a cheap and quick way, you might wrap it with bubble wrap really well, then put it into a cheap duffel. Use the handles of the duffle to lash it on somehow.

Or get one of the gig bags that Gitty sells.

Sounds wonderful!

No idea how to protect the git but sounds wonderful!

collapsible, That give me a great idea!  I was planning on building a new git for this trip anyway. I'll post pics when I am done.

bring minimal  tools  instead  ,  make  the guitar  in the bush  ..  then  it only   has  risk   one  way  , and  you  have a spiritual keepsake  .  ;-)

Good idea.  I don't think I will go that far but in that same spirit, I will have to find a way to decorate the guitar with something I discover on my journey.

A few random thoughts - make it stout, have it be openable to stash stuff inside, have some tie down points like a hole in the headstock, if you are tonedeaf like me have a tuner app or small tuner, use sealed tuners

Just a thought, no idea if it'll work but maybe you can put a 'hinge' on the neck and body.  When hiking fold the neck back against the body and strap it to your pack.

Or if you are in bear country you might want to just strum away while ur hiking in...  Bears appreciate music too...Hope your trip is successful as He's never far away...

If you're building one for the trip, look at the strum stick design, or the mountain dulcimer look. Thin and lightweight.

The Gitty bags are nice to carry it in, and will keep it safe, unless of course you fall on it.

Let's hope you don't, and that you come back safe and sound.

Enjoy your trip!

Make something while you are out.

To build a canjo all you need to bring are a pocket knife, some string, a tuning peg or two, find a stick and recycle your bean cans.

With just a pocketknife you can build heaps.

Most places I go there is always a bundle of discarded fishing line. Sometimes you even get lucky and find some line with a lure at the end of it.
