Adjustable bridge

Hello, again, gentlemen...and others!  So my first build continues and my compulsion to get it as right as possible the first time continues to slow me down.  Anyway, I got an adjustable bridge from Ben at cbgitty to us for this build and was wondering about the best way to attach it.  Since it attaches by screwing to the top of the box, I wondered if I should put an additional layer of wood on the underside of the box top for additional strength.  This CBS is going to have a magnetic pup (thanks Delta Groove!), but I would like it to be audible as an acoustic.

Just as a bit of background, I am building this for my dad as a gift for his 75th birthday.  His fingers are much too thick for a standard guitar and he enjoys playing a bit.  I just want it to be nice and functional for him, so I'm probably over-thinking everything.

Thanks, folks!

  • Provide as much material as the screw length, plus a bit more.  most lids won't suffice on their own.  I usually do a neck-thru and glue on some extra width inside the box.  If not doing a neck-thru guitar, then I would add reinforcement under the bridge from edge to edge of the box.

It will be audible acoustically, but not incredibly loud.  I am actually surprised sometimes at how acceptable these type bridges are for acoustic sound.  Not excellent, but not poor.

How about a little peek under the hood? #cbg #cigar #cigarboxguitar...

    • I was on the same page, Badfinger, but the neck isn't wide enough to cover the screw holes on the bridge.  I guess I am going to have to glue a thin piece of wood to the underside.  So you think it needs to be edge to edge, huh?  I didn't consider it having to be that wide...interesting.

      Thanks!

      • It depends on the lid of the box.  And I guess it would have helped if that picture actually posted.  Here is a different one.
