Guys,

I have done my box and neck work (cutting/drilling, sanding and staining) and I am ready to bring everything together.  I am workin with the how to manual from GB Gitty.  I have an Arturo Fuente box and it has paper on the underside of the lid.  Do I need to remove this paper to add the piezo pickup?

Would it mess with the sound if I left the paper on the underside of the lid?

Help a newbie please.

Brian

  • On my last build there was paper on the inside, actually card board top, what I did was take the sticky tape off the piezo, made a puddle of 5 min epoxy and placed the piezo in that. I figure some would have leached down into the 80+ year old cardboard, plus the sticky tape didn't hold for crap. You might scrape it with some sandpaper if it's glossy paper.

    • I was thinking of taking an exacto and cutting out the paper in the area where I wanted to put the pick up.  Does the piezo have to right underneath the bridge neighborhood so to speak?

      • If you have a thru the body neck you just place it off to the side at one end or the other of the bridge. Don't put it on the neck or it get's dampned.

        • Got it.  I have two builds going right now where I am using the neck-thru design.  Building a diddley bow and a three string fretless.  Getting close to buttoning these up.  Just need to know how to put on the finishing touches.  This has turned out to be a great experience for me.

          • Don't forget to post pic's when you're done, have fun!

            • For sure I will post pics.  I think that satisfaction of completing the project will be something to boast about.

              Thanks for your help.
