ok i want to do string a through the lid using a brace do i need the ferrules on bottom of the brace and then top of the lid or is that over kill ? and question #2 i want to build a 12 string lap do you think an oak 1x4 would be strong enough or should i brace just to be sure ? its a solid body lap so there is that added strength too .
I would double up that 1x4 for the lap steel, but that's just based on what I would do, not any failed experience with a 1x4 12-string steel. For the additional cost of an extra board, it is relatively inexpensive insurance. Use a contrasting wood for some interest, maybe.
the 1x4 came off a dresser lol so ill see if i can find something else . thanks man .
Give it a whirl then. You only got time and a board to loose. If it bows under tension, you can always remove strings and play until you can find a reinforcement.
well i used a little red neck science and put it between 2 blocks and bounced on it . dont think it will work . it started popping and cracking . may just use a 2x4 and cut out what i dont need .
ok thanks . wasnt sure if it was pointless or not .
