I think the right answer is:  The two you want to use!

As a bass player, I'll suggest the two low strings,  E and A  on a full/long scale (34") bass, and use the other two on a short scale bass (30") tuned to E and A. 

with that arrangement any bass player could pick up your CBB(s) and play with a band without a hitch.

Whatever you want!!!!!I use some messed up sets,thats the fun!My latest I strung kinda thick in the middle and worked thinner on the outsides w/ the strings!!!!Middle is 50,tops are 15 10,bottoms are 30? and 24.
