Can tap tuning be effectively applied to a CBG? The only thing I can see that might be done to effect the tuning of the soundboard is adding bracing. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience in applying this technique to a CBG?

I put 17 and 13 on and I'm not sure how to tune it to make it playable. I've tried tuning to C and E and that doesnt seem right. I'm afraid I'll start breaking strings or putting too much stress on my canjo's poplar neck.

If you had the three strings I mentioned, which two would you use and how do you think you'd tune them?

The specs: 3 strings, 30 inch scale, the neck is inside the box, no tailpiece. The strings (E, A and D) are attached to the outside of the box by a hinge.

The question: it doesn't stay in tune for more than a few minutes. There are a few factors that might encourage loss of intonation. The lid is tight, but not actually secured. The neck is also tight, but not nailed or glued to anything. Is this why it won't stay in tune? If that's the case, there are some supports inside the box for the neck - is it okay to screw the neck into those supports and will that fix my intonation problem?

For what it's worth, I really enjoyed this project and I'm very happy with the outcome. I'll definitely be building another one.

I got my new CBG done last night and I got to playing it, and man am I rusty!

Anyhow, I was going to tune to open G, but I could not get the top string to tune into G, I felt like I was going to snap it. Not well rounded on music theory, so any help would be great, thanks, and if anyone can lead me to some good, one finger chords using the open D tuning, that would be awesome too. I am wanting to change up my playing style and polish it a bit more, and mix in some sliding with some finger work.
How to Play EEB Tuning Cigar Box Guitar - Get easy, beautiful chords with this lessontag:www.cigarboxnation.com,2017-03-21:2592684:Topic:28277292017-03-21T02:44:10.895ZCigar Box Nationhttps://www.cigarboxnation.com/profile/MotherLeeds

Hi everyone,

I am a complete beginner in music and guitar playing. I got a Loog guitar for my kids but liked it so much that I will build a CBG from the kits sold by CB Gitty. The problem is that I don't know how to play the guitar and I know very little music theory (and practice for that matter).

My question is fairly simple. Tuning a 3 stringer and/or Loog as the first three strings of the guitar GBE has the clear advantage that I can take any existing tablature and just use the bottom half part for chords. I still have to memorize 7 major chords, 7 minor chords, and a few more, and I need some dexterity in my hands which I don't really have :) Sounds doable though.

Now, there are many many open tunings, and correct if I'm wrong, but GBD seems to be one of the most populars. From what I have read, this open tuning (and seral others, open C with GCE) allow me to play several important chords by just barring the three strings and moving up and down the fret. This is a BIG advantage, it means very simple finger patterns, easy chord switching, and less costly transitions between chords. But then if I still have to learn several "complex" (i.e., not one finger barring all strings) patterns than I might as well just use standard guitar tuning...

My question is very specific: what are the advantages and disadvantages of one versus the other? There are of course millions of factors to take into account, so I'm asking this from the point of view of an untalented, ungifted, not too dexter, perhaps a little lazy newbie :)

Thanks everyone!

I've built several two and the string guitars now. They are all electric. Some use a rod piezo and some a disc piezo asunder the bridge as a pickup. For some reason, the low E string on all of them is touchy to tune with an electronic tuner (I have three different tuners).

The jump from D to Db to E. As I let them ring long, they Strabane a bit, but for the first 25%of the note they won't tune. The next two strings tune fine (Dad in this case).
Any thoughts on how to correct this or if it's…

What's your favorite 3-string tuning? I hope to produce a bunch more lessons and want them to be useful for as many people as possible. The ones on my website now use EBE, but I'm thinking most people are using GDG.

couple of very basic questions related to first tuning of my CBG…

I bought a set of electric guitar strings that are labeled 46, 36, 26, 17, 13 10 and understand that for a 3-string I’m supposed to use the A, D, and G strings. So, for the strings I bought is that strings 36, 28 & 17?

And, does anyone use the Guitar Tuna app? Selecting the Open G tuning, do I tune to these three tuners of a 6-string? (image attached)
