Hey everybody, hope all are well.

Just wondering if a C.B. Gitty 4 watt speaker can be installed upside down. The way I built my amp, it would be neater, wiring-wise, to install it upside down. I looked around here and elsewhere on the net and found some speakers can be done that way, but not all. Anyone know and mind enlightening me and others who may have the same question?

Thank you in advance,

Hello all,

While I was swapping out amp speakers I noticed the spade connectors that Fender uses are kind of loose at the speaker connections and the wire is a fairly small 18 gauge. Light bulb moment, on my Fender Mustang I V2, I de-soldered the wires from the output board and soldered 14 gauge wire to the board and soldered the other end to the speaker connections. Larger gauge wire equals less signal loss and resistance and the soldered connections also reduce resistance.. Think Monster cables to your stereo speakers instead of the stock wires. I did get a small loss in the lower tones but the mids and highs are crystal clear now, and I can always turn up the bass. Anyway, for the price of about 10 cents worth of solder and wire I got the same sound as a lower end speaker upgrade ($40 to $60). This is in no way as good as swapping in a top of the line or even mid dollar range speaker but it's cheap and easy.
how to hack regularly available charity shop electronics to make an amptag:www.cigarboxnation.com,2015-10-17:2592684:Topic:24147752015-10-17T02:09:55.237ZDarrell Cosdenhttps://www.cigarboxnation.com/profile/DarrellCosden

Here is my interest. I would like to go into GoodWill or any charity shop and pick up a cheap VCR, DVD player, boom box or the like and hack it and then relocate the parts it in a cigar box to make an amp. Any ideas of what to use or how? I'm a total novice on all these things BTW. And, I cannot find in charity shops any old school type transistor radios so I want to use whats readily available and cheap.

Hi i have recently built an amp based on the lm 386 chip. I love the sound and I am super happy with the build. However I want to build another amp with a bit more punch and I would like to build in some effects too. like gain control or tremolo. etc. any ideas for chip choice and how to incorporate the effects. I would also prefer to build it from scratch as that is almost half the fun :) So I don't want to just buy a kit. Thanks for any ideas. :)

So far this is what have learnt on the various experimental trials I have made,

for the right sounding amp. The problem is still not resolved can you help?

1) Basic transistors amps can sound a bit flat

2) These sound way better with reverb

3) A valve in the circuit sound better (but the AX12 valve doesn't sound great)

4) This then lead me to combo amps with valve and effects

5) Valves sound better and more three dimensional, these need to be driven to get better distortion effect.

6) If you drive valves with valves pedals or over drive pedals this helps them come alive

7) But this leads you to what valves, I have tried some EL84 mullards and these sound ok

What valves have the best sound? 6v6, El84, etc?

Valve circuits can be noisey and lots of hiss and buzz for recording

8) This then lead me to "Rat amps" which modify valve amps and remove the noise from the circuit for recording

and offer power scaling, so you can turn it down but still sound crunchy. These are great see my Bugera rat amp and rat Grainger (Epiphone copy) amps (small 5 watt amps).

9) External speakers sound better than combo speakers, a 12inch has more bass then a 10" and pushes air

this is about all you would want to carry as they weight.

However a four 10" also sound possibly better than 1 x 12" but vary depending on makes.( leads you to Jensen and vintage speakers etc)

10) I have no found some 2 no 2 x 10 inch 80's jap celestrians ( £20 each bargain.. see bugstack!) which sound pretty darn good (I may have preferred 2 x 12's if it was a big venue but still lightish and portable)

11) But am now back to the issue of what head unit to drive them with.

12) I like the sounds of Orange valve amps but these have no reverb (unless you go to stupid money),

13) Hence I am on the quest for best valves to use and what second hand head to aim for?.

I hear Messa boogey are very good, but they may be beyond my badly listed ebay bargain bucket budget.

Hence I'm after any tips to the way to go on getting that Holy grail of sound...

I know the old Marshall stuff used to use a certain type of valve in old vintage stuff, but what is the holy grail of amp heads for sound? EC83 and EL84?

Now how can you get this on the cheap?.

Here is some of my experimentation with amps etc:

Has anyone tried the VOX headphone amp AP2AC?tag:www.cigarboxnation.com,2015-02-20:2592684:Topic:22382742015-02-20T23:46:23.244ZTom Thttps://www.cigarboxnation.com/profile/TomTemple

Further, as the temperatures have dropped (even here in the deep South) I might want to move inside just to protect the guitars from the frigid weather.

Sooooooooooo........I've been looking at different types of headphone amps. I keep seeing listings for the VOX AC30, but recently found a listing for the newer AP2AC which replaces the AC30 and has about nine built in effects in addition to the basic tone/volume/gain on the older AC30.

Has anyone had any experience with this product or anything similar? On paper, it sound very good and may allow me to keep practicing and warm my bones at the same time.

After my first cigar box guitar build, which was a lot of fun, I want to build a little cigar box amp. The problem is I am a newbie, and the schematics is pretty heavy stuff for me. So I wondered if you guys had some schematics to recommend, and maybe also explain the basics behind them. I just want to know how to build them by looking at the schematics :)
