Hey all.

I have been watching this speaker for awhile now. They are American Vintage model G8Cs, 20 watt, 8 ohm speakers. They are on sale for about 20% off and are supposed to sound bluesy. I have yet to build an amp, but I have been studying various schematics, teaching myself all this stuff with the help of several very patient members here. Thank you again. I have an enclosure mostly built to house a five inch 5 watt speaker I have and will build an LM386-based amp for my first one. (Ruby? Lil Gem?) Anyway, I would like suggestions on what would be a good next step for a build to power these nice speakers?

Will low-z pickups work well with these setups, or should there be adjustments?

Thank you in advance for any help you guys can offer.

I've just built my first CB amp. It's a simple 2.5 watt Artec circuit w no reverb. I recently saw a pic on here of a CB guitar with springs literally mounted inside the body of the guitar to give a reverb affect. I'm curious if this same idea would work in an amp. No circuit or electronic control, just literally a spring or two mounted inside the amp cabinet. Maybe drill a couple sound holes in the front of the amp to let the reverb ring out a bit. Has anyone here tried this before?…

Hi!

I bought an old cassette player/radio at an estate sale (really cheap!) and I'm wondering where/how I start in converting it into a guit amp.

I've seen a few vids of some Australian (?) cat doing it, and he took out the magnetic head that reads the tapes. I've also read one can simply solder the positive to the head.

I'm open to any advice on how I start this undertaking.

Thanks!

I have not posted here in a million years -- been off in Google groups, but last night I had a great time when I surprised a good friend by giving him one of a pair of resonator CBGs I had built. The CBG had a flat humbucker as well so he plugged it into a small amp I had given him about a year ago -- and I was really amazed at how good it sounded.

You see as an old (really old) electronics tech I've been on a quest to build a really good battery powered amp for CBGs. I have designed and prototyped a number of LM386 and a multi-watt LM380 in the past 18 months. Each one having some good features and some issues ... the quest continues. But one of my early tests was taking an off the shelf Honeytone amp ($22) and gutting it and putting it into a bigger enclosure with two 3inch 1watt speakers. So if you are lacking the ability to read schematics - solder - of know which end of a resistor to use ------ you can build one of these for around $30 and a few hours. One of the keys here are the right speakers --- this is a sub 1watt amp so if you use those 3inch 30watt car speakers you have laying around its going to sound poor. This little LM386 powered amp cannot fully actuate those speaker cones. While my quest continues on the design side I'm going to build one of these - again - for my own use. I can provide more details if there is interest.

Here are the parts I used:
