I'm still alive and well, not sure who wrote this it's been played by everyone including The Dead.
I first heard this song from Muleskinner on the record Muleskinner.
A very cool group of bluegrass guys that include Clarence White;Peter Rowan:Bill Keith;Richard Greene;David Grisman.
There used to be a great video of Tony Rice showing how he plays this on youtube, that anybody who wants to learn bluegrass rhthym should watch. He has some amazing lessons on youtube!!!

Yep they did a documentary of Jerry and David doing a record.

A box should make it easy to build a b bender and the neck through should help. got to be strong.

Which string to bend? middle   Strap arm to bike cable and cam behind the bridge strong return spring sounds easy.

Design of the historic Parsons/White StringBender in Marty Stuart’s Clarence exposed. Later production models of the mechanism are fitted in – rather than on – the guitar back. The greenish paper holds Stuart’s settings for a particularly satisfying sound – illegible from years of soaking with WD-40.

Love that vid.  "The melody is just whatever you want to play".

I've been getting stuff together for a B-Bender build.  Here's a great article on the history of the string bender.  Gene seems like he'd fit in here.

Clearance and Gene Parson invent the B bender.

Jerry played a lot with David Grisman .  here one for BB.

True RTZ. I've got a friend who's a world class flatpicker which is a style I never learned. He makes it sound so doggone cool that getting some of those licks is high on my list now. Some people have the notion that bluegrass is mostly redneck music which is something Clarence and Jerry Garcia disproved big time. Plus, wasn't that string bender attached to the strap button one of Clarence's ideas? Or was that Roland? Have to look it up.

Thanks Jim, Bluegrass is way cooler when you play it not all people listen to it and get it but if you play it, it's a kick in the ass. Clearance was great and he could play electric guitar as well just wanted to get his story out some way.
