Original CBG music - 3 string tuned GCE, 3 string tuned CGC, washtub bass. The carnival is mere steps from my house. It's fun for a day, but after that I go a little crazy. This is the second version of the song I posted called A Long Night at Oily's. I added the bass and a second guitar part based on some of the exercises from the Phrygian Kid's blog "I see threes" Harmony and counterpoint- yes!

Great comments eK - I'd like to tell you I planned all of this out, but the main guitar (high tuned GCE) was just something I'd pieced together over a long period by ear.  One lick leads to another type of thing.  I wasn't thinking in terms of major/minor chords let alone diminished!  It wasn't until the Phrygian Kid's blog that I started to kind of understand what was happening and I still couldn't tell you exactly what is going on, but I hear it and feel it.

All I know is I like it and I'm glad you do too.  The dancer thing was mentioned by Jim Morris and my family as well, so there is something there.  I think you're a bass guy, so I appreciate that too.  It's been my weak link - especially intonation without frets and trying to really lay it down is a challenge.  Thanks man.

Some of the nicest melodies and harmonizations I've heard in a good long while. Like that sort of Django swing bit that starts around the one minute mark...and that diminished (I think it's diminished) chord around 1:23....and finally how it breaks out into one of those bluegrassy things after that. You know, the cool kind where you have two modes going simultaneously and you can't really guess which one it's going to ultimately resolve to? And then there's that...Ah heck! I just love the whole thing!

You really need to have a dancer take a listen and work out some choreography for this one. It's just begging for a strange sort of dance number to go along with it.

Yup. This one is marvellous all the way through. Especially with the addition of that bass line. We don't get too much of that in these parts.

Can't wait to hear more. Lots more.

Beautiful! Sounds like there might have been a belly dancer at the carnival. Love those cool minor scales - I can here the sawmill influence in there!
