Hey guys first post here. I recently purchased a cbg and love it. I find myself playing with it more than my actual guitars. I debated with building one but figured it best to have one i could study before doing my own. Right now i have a box i purchased from ebay on the way. My plans for it are to build a little amp to go with my cbg. However I cant find any small rectangular speakers on cb gitty. Is there another source you have to get them?

thanks,

nate

Gitty has some nice 3" rectangular speakers

A complete amp with speaker is also available as a kit for  a low price. Saves a lot of parts chasing.

All i saw on their site was circular speakers. I really like the image on the box and i think circular ones would cut into it.

What are your cabinet dimensions?

What are your amp's output in watts and ohms?

I'm still waiting on the cigar box to get here. So no dimensions yet. The amp I want to use is a 14watt nightfire not sure about ohms.

at 14 wats those small speakers are not going to handle it. the small speakers are usually good for only 1 to 3 watts..

Most guitar rated speakers capable of handling 14watts will be too tall to fit in a cigar box. You could stack several boxes on top of each other or make a plywood box with the cigar box on top for decoration. A good guitar rated speaker that handle that wattage will be about 5" to 6" tall and you'll like the sound more coming from a speaker that's 6" to 12" diameter. The cabinet is supposed to be twice the size of the speaker dimensions for optimal performance. You can go smaller, but the sound will suffer. Some like the sound of a small speaker in a small box, others don't.

Jensen, Eminence or WGS guitar speakers are going to be the best options. You may find some others.

That's a bummer. I picked that amp because it has tone knobs and led prewired in the board. Any suggestions for something similar that would work?

A) mount the amp circuit in the box you ordered, run the output to a jack and label it "SPEAKER" and mount your speaker(s) in a separate box with a jack, like a professional head and cabinet stack...in the speaker cab wire up 4 of the gitty 3in 4w speakers, 2 pairs of series and then wire the 2 pairs in parallel, label the jack "8ohm/16w".

B) mount the speakers buried inside the box and cut a custom hole in the box to  "port" the sound out, like the fancy BOSE soundwave thingy

good idea JL. mini stacks can look cool..

Put a round speaker behind a square hole. What's it going to hurt? Resulting sound depends on the size of the speaker to the size of the hole. If most of the speaker is covered you will end up with a bit of a nasaly sound. Losing some of the low end. If you find you've ended up with a shrilly sound put a square of wood directly in front if the center of the speaker. On the grill. Experiment with the size of this square.

This is the box i plan on using. Its rather large as you can see. But I dont want to mess up the picture and logo. Could i run 3 speakers in it and use the 14 watt amp?

use a 6"car speaker and have the opening on the back? that way you wont ruin the graphic...
