Hi All,

New here to the forum. It's great to have a site dedicated to everything CBG.

I finished building my first the CBG using the CB Gitty Cigar Box kit. It didn't turn out too bad but there were a couple of bumps and bruises along the way that I have learned from for the next build.

One question that I have is why the head stock is cut down 1/4". Is this so the turners are long enough to string or for looks?

My other question has to do with going with a scarf joint on the next build, will I have to take a 1/4" off the head stock for that as well?

Thanks for your help and hope to hear from you.

The reason the headstock is cut down is to create a break angle for the strings at the nut. That will help limit string buzz and help keep the nut in place.

If you do a scarf joint, that will accomplish the exact same thing and usually does it better.

Depending on the the tuners you buy, you may have to shave some or the head stock down but the economical tuners that C.B. Gitty sells are made for thicknesses of 5/8 - 3/4".

Thanks so much Jim that is really good info. I didn't realize this was the purpose of the notched out head stock.
Thanks Wayfinder
