I have noticed that since the site was changed, many of the photos that are posted have that "wrong size so we will squeeze it to fit the window" look to them. I hardly ever saw that before. Is that something that can be fixed or is it some new problem from certain phone cams or something?

Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing that myself. I think the site looks for more or less square images, and maybe some of the pics that are uploaded are more rectangular? Needs to be tested I suppose.

So, I have spent some time searching on-line about what causes this and have searched for specific info on why it happens with this NING powered web site, but I am not coming up with any answers. If fact my search for some reason seems to eventually land me on some "Men in Rubber Boots" web site and trust me,I am not clicking on that one!

Ben I sure hope you can find some solution. It has gotten so frequent that I can hardly stand to scroll through the photos for hours like I used to! I know that if you choose "view full size" the image will open up and not be distorted anymore, but who has time and inclination to do that? Not me. Especially if the poster does not even take the time to list any details about the build.

Help, my eyes can't take it!!

its because they are TOO big....make the photos smaller....try 1000 pixels or so across....that will fix it

That makes sense. I'm not sure if a lot of people are inclined or even know how to do that though? Is it because cameras and phone cams are producing larger , higher resolution images? I guess I thought that the website would automatically re-size images if they were too large, or at least give the poster a warning that he images will be distorted.

Thanks for the tip!

I see it with what I suspect are photos that are shot in HD aspect ratio, since some of the other pics come out ok with a little bit of black bars to fill the square.

Yes, either change the properties on you phone before taking the pic, or crop them on your laptop before uploading please, I have sadly seen a lot of photos on the home page slide show that I wished I could see what they really looked like before the "Sledge-o-Matic" got to it.

Just tried to upload my 1st photos (newbie on the site!) & they were squished.  Had to do a search to find this discussion, to figure out why there was an issue with uploading.  The said photo is only 1440 pixels wide, & to resize I have to use a Photoshop-type application to resize.  No guidance on how to upload or what size my photo is limited to, just "figure it out" after the fact.

I know this is a free forum, but there's got to be better behind the scenes software - 'cause I'm sure other online forums don't have these problems - that one doesn't need to know photo editing to upload a simple snapshot from my phone!  And the issue has been know about for over six months now; are others having the problem too or just the newbies?

Okay, changed the width from 1440 to 1000 & it uploaded without problems.  The overall file size went from 785Kb to 479Kb.

Good , I hope others will read this and do that as well, but you are right, it seems that the website software should be able to either do that for you, or provide a guide on what size image has to be to display correctly? It really hampers my enjoyment of the site as I have to click on view full size on a lot of images I want to see, which takes more time on my slow computer(since it is bogged down with thousands of CBG photos no doubt).
