Hi,

I am having an issue and not sure if it is me or the saw. I purchased cbgitty medium/medium fret wire and through their site they linked to a pull saw on Amazon which I purchased. The frets are lose and come out easily. I am not sure if others have had issues like this. Any advice?

Thanks,
Mike

Just did a side by side test in the Irwin new, Irwin old, Shark seen on CB Gitty and the Harbor Freight saw. Both Irwins (see link to saw in post "Harbor Freight pull saw size change" post) cut .022 " the shark .028 and the Harbor Freight .030+ . CB Gitty frets are loose on the HF finger push in on the Shark . The Irwins are just right to hammer or press in . See photo below

Thanks. Where did you get the Erwin? Do you have a model number?

Thanks again,
Mike

Thanks for the info on the Irwin. The description also describes it as good for cutting dowels flush, so this will be great for the dots on the fretboard too.

Thanks. What kind of glue do you use? Also will it pose any issues down the road going that way?

Thanks again,
Mike

Just a tip when gluing frets...have a damp cloth ready, and use it to wipe away any excess glue that runs/oozes out. Saves a lot of hassle later on once glue dries and messes up the finish.

Thank you Scott. I misses this one, I meant to reply and missed, sorry. I am thinking I would prefer not to have to glue due to the mess and the concern that after done discovering something is not set right. I was hoping to be further along but going to replace the saw and take my time so to have it right. Thank you again,
Mike

Thank you Gary, I will check it out. Bummed that the one they recommended is too wide though.

StewMac stuff is expensive. But this saw is worth every penny.

Jeff, thank you. I will check this one out as well. Obviously I prefer to pay less but if it makes the job easier as well as the proper thickness I might just do it though. Do you use it running along a square or do you have their miter box? The box is way out of my range. I would like to know if the adjustable fence can be moved to the other side so I could run the other side on the square. Do you know if it is reversible?

Thank you,
Mike

Mike,i just use a scrap block, say 3x2x1,screw a piece of 1/4 ply to the 1 inch face,so that it hooks on the side of your neck and use it as a square guide,no damage to neck or blade

Yes sounds like it will work well, going to give it a shot. Now to choose on the replacement saw. Bummed about the first.
