you might want to avoid using magnets that are too strong. i was watching an interview with seymore duncan...the creator of seymore duncan pickups he said that using magnets that were too strong would affect how much the string would vibrate decreasing resonance. i don't know alot of the math behind it but you might want to keep that in mind. the idea behind pickups is that if you cause relative motion across a magnetic field that is wrapped in a coil a voltage will be created so you can increase that voltage or signal in two ways. increase the magnetic field strength( which inhibits the vibration of the string) or you can increase the number of windings...which is better because your string can vibrate freely... that is what it meant when people say that a pup is hot...lots and lots of windings hope that helps a little

If they are so strong they make the strings stick to the top for sure. No vibrations. Following this line of resoning though we would still be using Huge horseshoe magnets. Their is a realtion between Gauss, windings and proximity. All Strong mags do is make athe same guass in a smaller package. For the Mega rich duncan whos claim to fame is ripping 50s designs might be a limiting factor.
