thanks guys.  @ john tuned GDAe used strings 42/30/20/14 scale length is 650mm. if i did it again i would make the scale length closer to 560mm, as the chords are a stretch.

this is the latest creation. it was a full sized POS guitar, with some of the worst build qualities I have ever seen. (the bridge plate was 15mm thick!!!)  resized it. made a new heel.  recycled fretboard (needs to get dressed properly).  new Tasmanian blackwood top (donated by a customer at work) thinned to about 3mm. now a 4 string tenor guitar tuned 'Irish' style e.g just like a mandolin. chords are too big a stretch compared to a mandolin.  took an age to source strings.  had to make up my own set.  love it.  also added a truss rod.  don't think it worked.  also reset the neck by cutting it of at the heel to the fret board then re-glued, so easy and worked really well. can post a link to the original idea if needed.
