What is a good wood for a neck I've used maple,poplar,and oak.has any one used alder?

This is my first 5-string banjo; I did build a tenor banjo before. This was built as a commissioned work for a customer.

Here it is, my very fist homemade instrument! 5-string canjo with an olive-oil tin body and a fretless poplar neck. They're only gonna get better from here on in.
