i found 2 examples of how tin boxes are attached to the necks.
the first has some kind of frame inside the box and the second
has a support piece under the neck. does anyone know if the second
is done by using screws to attach it to the back side of the tin?
as far as the the first way, with wood frame inside is it the same
way, with screws on the back? give me some clues people.
thanks

the neck on it is really thick, support piece under it right? id you make a relief cut under the lid? beStillroy said:It's actually this one that had the clearance... the pink one I releved the neck a bit 1/8 - 3/16 inch
not necessary Paul no. Long as you cut nice neat slots in the tin.
I learned it from a guy called Naz Nomad, he calls himself some other name now..
;) shhhh
whats a good way to cut the tin for the neck?

I use a dremel wheel, works great.
I learned this off naz nOmad
you want to have enough clearance on the neck so your cut is entirely below the lip there, that means you dont need to modify the lid at all.
Ok so you can see my pencil lines where the neck will fit, then i scored in where im going to cut.
like this. By the time ive done both ends the wheel is pretty much gone.
Ok so you hold a nice straight edge against the inside and carefully fold each of the four flaps in (Dont cut yourself)
Then you can gently work your neck in, do it reverse first for the tail end, then go in the right way. Go slow and take care not to distort the shape f the tin too much.
Drop a couple screws in each end, you need a tiny bit of clearance at the neck join for the lid to fit in nicely.
enjoy :)
thats a regular cheapy strat pup mate, $5...
works approximately 4.732 million times better than a piezo..
works in any amp just great. If you want to use distortion/overdrive etc you'll need to set it into the neck and train it on the strings, but for an acoustic sound putting it on the soundboard like that works great
i missed that Larry so sorry. Straight to the jack bro, simple as you please. Bear in mind, with a tin body all your grounding pretty much takes care of itself, the chassis of the jack grounds right to the body..
lovely ;)

Hey Jef. I've been using piezos since I got into this CBG craziness. Is your strat pup attached to the output just like a piezo would be? Your photo makes it look all too easy.

Hi All...
My questions are in regard to the photo that shows a magnetic pickup tie-wrapped to the side of the neck. Sorry if I change the direction of this thread. First, does this really work? Can you get good pickup? I always thought that the six little round pickup do-ma-jiggies had to be placed under the steel strings. But then I am wondering if that still works with a iron or stainless steel box? Maybe with an iron or stainless steel box, the pickups are just picking up the vibrations of the lid which is vibrating as a result of the string vibrations (indirect pickup). Can anyone who has experience doing this let me know what's going on here?
-Rand.
P.S. There is another CBN discussion group that discusses things like mounting necks to tins: The Canjo Consortium.
