Hey all,

I got my first "resonator" CBG today. My builder used the higher strings from a 6-string set so that I would get more of a banjo sound, and that is why this new git is tuned to DGB. I've only been playing CBG for less than a year, and my first CBG is tuned to GDG. I am totally use to that tuning, so this new DGB tuning is throwing me off. LOL, I can't play any of my GDG songs on this new git.

Months back I downloaded the GDG chord sheets from CB Gitty, but now I am wondering how to play chords with this new DGB tuning. Does anyone know where I can find them? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Richard. I am going over the link that Korrigan sent me below. I am finding there are sometimes 2 different ways to play some of the "7" chords. I'm going to make some edits now.

I'll grab a banjo and check these out using the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings. The thing about any 3 string instrument, regardless of tuning, is that many chords require more than 3 notes to get all the notes in there. For instance, Gm7 requires G,Bb, d and f for the full chord. The challenge for us 3 string players is to determine which of those notes can be left out and still give the sound we want. This might change from song to song and a different form of the chord might be used to get the desired sound. As Richard Dean points out in his E7 diagram, you lose the b note in order to play the d which is the chord's actual 7th. The b is part of the chord too but you have to decide which voicing gives you what you want using just 3 strings.

I'm a little late to the party, looks like you guys have got it figured out already, but here's a handy tool  for future use from a guy named Theo:

Cool. Thanks. Oddly enough, I'm seeing some differences between my chart and Theo's generated notes. Maybe someone can tell tell which chords on my chart are off??

The chord generator's Gm7 is different than the one I posted, I was going to post that, but seemed a little tough at a 4 fret finger stretch, you can sometimes find the same chord in a different part of the fret board as they repeat, I just chose a simpler method.

thanks for that link!! was looking for something like that..

I plan on creating a chart using only these chords

A,Am,A7,Bm,B7,C,C7,D,Dm,E,Em,E7,F,G,G7  Anything else, I doubt I'll ever need for a few years to come till I get proficient...or IF I get proficient lol

That's cool. I just like to be able to pick up a sheet and try new chords. It's just fun to explore. I made the corrections you posted for the Gm7 and the E7. I'm going through that chord generator and making any changes I see. It might have some mistakes, but that's what I got you guys for, LOL. Just let me know...

Richard, you need a F#m7.    cant play Hotel California without it...lol

if you must have it, played on the 7th and 9th fret position for DGB tuning

F#m7 = F#,E,A

UPDATED SHEET 4/6/18:

Okay, I was going over Theo's chord generator, and saw a couple of these chords are mapped out differently than just taking the banjo chord and removing the outer strings. So are there maybe two ways of playing a chord? I have some optional fingerings. And like I said, there are a number of chords here that are exact duplicates, which can't be right. If they are bad let me know. I don't know. I'm a novice. Anyway, guys, look at this new chart and make your corrections. Let's get a nice DBG chart for 3 string going that everyone can agree on. I'm happy to generate this thing...just give me your feedback. New pdf attached.

DGB%20Tuning%20Chart.pdf

The F#m7 you added via my pic, your chart shows it at the 1st and 3rd fret, which is why I marked it the 7th and ninth fret, so either it needs labeled the same.
