Hey, Richard.  Yup, that is a 50' plate.  My birth year and from the county I was born in. 

On the harps going bad (or being bad direct from the factory) -- There are tiny brass reeds in thin rectangular shapes that must be bent just right to vibrate and sing within a tight little coffin that houses each reed.  The reeds get sticky with saliva or just plain get sucked or blown out of shape. 

Decent harps are expensive.  I'd say one in two or three ten dollar harps is decent. Luck of the draw....   My fave harps, the Hohner Special 20   and the Hohner Golden Melody are in the $45 range.   There are a lot of harps over a hundred bucks!   And much more.  But not for me!

This may be one dumb question, but what goes bad to make a harp not work? I’m thinking maybe the wood wears down. Is that a 1950 plate, I know you were looking for one. Questions questions, causing trouble in the mind. Nice one Uncle!

Thanks, Be.  Nothing to protect the markers yet.  I was waiting to make sure I liked them.  I do like them and may put some shellac on them.  Any better ideas?

Nice...it works having those 1st three frets. Did you put anything over those markers to protect them?
