First build and first post so bear with me as I’ll probably have few questions along the way. I’m using a CBGitty box, burnt laser markings are on the outside on purpose. I’ve wood burned the top and I’m going to distress it so I figured the burned marks will help.
Now to my question. I’ve ordered a premade fretboard and I plan on using some old heart pine as the neck. I’m wanting the fretboard to come over the top of the box a little but not sure how the process needs to go. What would be the best way to go about this?
My thinking is to fix the neck so it’s flush with the top then glue the fretboard on. With this box, the top sits on top of the box, which I’ll screw on blocks I’ll put in the corners so he neck will have to be notched so it comes up even with the top with lid on.
Thanks for any advise.

Looking good Troy! I like the offset fret markers.
Thanks. Not my idea but I liked it when I saw it.
Will it work ok to use the fretboard as a string spacer for the zero fret setup?
That should work, though you may need a string tree.
Didn’t mention it but I’ve those as well.
like Korrigan said, a string tree will probably needed to get correct break angle
example;
in addition, you may want to use a false nut, one that doesn't raise the height over your zero fret but acts merely as a string guide. (not my idea, actually another members, I'd give him credit but forget who)
Like the first one, might use that design.
I didn’t think far inough ahead, this being first build but learning is part of the process. I should have overlapped the fretboard even more to get the bridge farther back. 25-1/2” scale so I’m correct in the bridge will need to be around 25-1/2 back from zero fret?
not using the punch but it’s in the location of where bridge will need to be. Does it look odd, too far forward? In my mind I was wanting it to be around the “whiskey” on the box.
How do you post pictures instead of jpeg links?
You have probably heard that there are no rules in CBG building but, while that's true, unless you want to go down the rabbit hole of Just Intonation vs Equal Temperament Intonation (which gives me a headace... cuz I suck at the maths), then you need to put your bridge twice the distance as the distance from your nut to the 12th fret... or it's going to sound somewhere between slightly bad to just gawd-awful. : )
Yep it is. 12th fret is 12-3/4 so 25-1/2 is correct.
Ive got it strung up and making noise :)
first I had to deal with the thin top sagging so I had to brace it, first with a thin piece of cedar glued under top and it still sagged some so I put another small strip on the neck under bridge and that took care of that. Not as loud but I plan on putting piezo in it and play through an amp.
Take a look at the string break at the bridge. Is it enough? I’ve got the string action pretty good but could go a little lower. I’m planning on cording and using slide too.
So ive got another question about intonation. Tuning in open G and the open strings agr in tune and the harmonic is also in tune at the 12th fret, however every note up the neck is sharp. In my mind I’m thinking that the string is bending too much and the bridge needs to be lowered more. Is that correct?
Looks like your bridge is 90 degrees to your strings, meaning all of your strings are the same length. If you want better intonation your thicker stings should be slightly longer than your thinner strings. Did you set the bridge just by measuring or by using a tuner?
