Hi, following on from my post, My Next CBG Build, here is the start of a series of photos and text showing how I approach this build. I haven't seen this type of box before so I'll be working things out as I go along. I will hopefully be able to show what I do and tell why I do it. I don't think its a difficult build but I hope you will be able to take something from it.

Here we go.......

Cheers Taff

cool, like where this is headed.

Looks like you've defiantly have a method to your madness Taffy, whereas I on the other hand just have the madness. Actually... I find that level of organization a little frightening.  lol

Hey Korrigan, works for me, ha  ha! you could even get  used to it. Any way here's some more to frighten you.

The bridge is a wrap around type that is also the tailpiece. Here I'm fitting it to the box.

Next doing the cut outs for the pickup and neck.

Enjoy Taff

Hi here's the next stage, cutting the cutouts for pickup and neck. You may not have the same tools/machines as I do, but where there's a will there's a way.

Be aware of putting tape on a paper covered box, use a low tack tape if you do, or a coat of shellac to seal the surface. Try on an out of the way place first.

Enjoy Taff

Nice process pic's, Taffy. I hope that Monkey Box behaves, so you don't have to spank it.

OK, here I will cover the fitting of the neck. When I build my own box I have all the parts worked out and I know they are going to fit and work. But with things like an actual cigar box or a tin of some kind, one has to get creative.

This neck block was designed just for this box, keeping in mind the quality and strength of the box and the fact that this is a six string slider.

Anyway photos tell the story.......

Cheers Taff

Hi all, This next stage is about fitting the neck. It's a bolt on neck that was unsuitable for the guitar it was originally fitted to so it already has screw holes in it. I wanted to use those same holes so I had to transfer their spacing to the neck pocket.

In the last photo's you see me using a jig to line up the neck to the bridge, this is what I use for my full size guitar builds, so I thought I would try it here. I use a simpler version for 3 string necks.

Any way enjoy

Taff

Well all done and set up for slide. I'm pleased with the outcome having played it for a week now.

Cheers Taff

Great lookin' git, Taffy. Thanks for the detailed building process series. Your  time and effort should be very helpful to many builders, both novice and experienced. Your gits are much more detailed and involved than my typical 3 stringers and basses, but the knowledge is a step towards better builds. Thanks again.

Thanks Grandpa.
