just after I posted the thread about shellac a label I got my parts and neck.  My neck is from MGB and is 25.5 scale.  I need some help about neck to box.  I marked the 25.5 on the neck to know where the bridge will be and laid the neck next to the box.  My question is it better to notch the top of the box so the fretboard goes past the edge of the box.  In the first  2 pics I have the bridge at 25.5 and I think that’s about where I would like the bridge to be.  I’m not to thrilled about where the neck enters the box, that’s not on the squared area.  The 3rd pic shows the fretboard even with the box, that makes the bridge almost in the middle and I don’t like that at all.  The next two pics shows somewhere in the middle, I still think the bridge is to close to the middle but I like where it goes into the box.  I need help, I guess I’m favoriting the first setup.

Paul, you may have already decided which way to go, but here's my $.02. Either of your layouts with the bridge towards the rear of the box would be my design. The hardtail in the middle just isn't the look I'd like. So, fretboard inserted into a gap in the top of the box it is! Before cutting your box, I'd consider doing a mock up with a less important box if you have one. Even a piece of plywood, thin hardwood, what ever you have access to. The mock up will allow you to make the inevitable bad cut, wrong cut, "oh CRAP!" cut on a scrap instead of your prize box. When you get it right, you can use your mock up piece as a template to accurately mark your box for your neck pocket/ fretboard joint. You still have to make a good cut, and Lord knows I've discovered how to screw that up, too.  But my mock up template gave me a fightin' chance at getting it right on the finished piece. Good luck, keep the pics coming.

I’ve moved on from this box, will use it in the future.  It’s amazing how much you learn at each step of the build.  Thanks for the template idea.

Well, it's a choice. Don't let that fine vintage box get too far down in the pile.  Your layout has the makin's of  a fine git. Hope you won't be shy about making your own necks. It can built to fit just what you're building, and there is a fine satisfaction in taking a stick and building a neck. Yer git will be thankful!

I think that box will look better with a floating bridge.

Most commercially produced electric 6 strings have the hard tail bridge about 1/3 the way up the body like your second option, so it is really up to you what you like for the looks.
