This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Worked on the headstock for my cello-bo.

That's my first scarf joint. I got awfully fancy but I like how it turned out. Well, almost, there is awesome grain on the backside but I cut it upside down left handed backwards...

The two holes are, well, the first one is a mistake and the second one is a hole that used to have a screw to keep it from slipping when I clamped it for gluing. I'll drill those out and put dowels in, for strength and to hide them!

I ran a 5 degree cut down the treble side to bring the tuners in close to the nut.

The wood is maple, I'm not sure how I'm going to finish it. I have a piece of scrap with Tung Oil but I think I'd like it darker.

I couldn't have done this without The Nation, thanks everybody! A week ago I would have thought that this was beyond my skill level.

Looking at the pick, I'm wondering about the scale and where the nut is going to go? Do you have enough space?

I died a Red Oak neck with Ebony stain once(my avatar git) and it came out very dark like I wanted. You just keep at it til it's the shade you want. Then I applied Tru-Oil. Tung Oil will work also and you'll want to scuff the back side of the neck with steel wool so your hand will slide smoothly up and down the neck.

I  put the fretboard on top of the scarf joint leaving just enough space for a nut before the headstock slopes down. If your neck starts sloping down at the joint, your neck may be too short.

Oh, yeah, I know what you mean. I did it that way, not the other way, because I'm using a bolt, not a threaded rod, and the bolt head and the nut on the end of the bolt, have to clear the wide part of the headstock.

The scale is 27.5" and I think I have 42" of board to work with. I need the extra length because cellos have lots of wrap at the ball end of the string so I need to account for that, plus, I need to have room for a horizontal bar that will rest of the thighs when played sitting.

Got it. With a Cello having a tall bridge and angled fretboard/fingerboard that might not have been a problem anyway.

Definitely want to see how this works out.

Oh, this is just cello strings, No super tall bridge like my cello and it won't be bowable. Flat fretboard. But yeah, I'm getting pumped about it. But its barely a cello. Just think of it as a CBG tuned deep and low.

ice

That doesn't sound good. Roof leaking? Ice dam? or just damn ice?

Ice is all right in your gIn and tonic when the outside temperature is 100 and You are sanding down a neck on your latest build trying to not let the sweat dripping off your nose onto the wood.

With a morning temperature of -20 here the other day, your image of a hot summer day made me smile...

I exaggerated a bit.  Just very cold!

Drilled the headstock for tuners. The big hole is for the bass tuner. (I'm using Cello strings and bass string is big.) Also filed a grove for the nut.

That's a 5/16ths bolt and it is way too big, the action is way too high. This will be unfretted but I still want to play it without a slide, no way can I press down that much. Off to Home Depot!
