Hello

I am just starting out into wanting to build my first Cigar Box Guitar

This discription is so helpful I can not afford a power saw so I have

to use hand tools slow and easy does it Iguess in my situation

There is so much to find out before starting the project, I am starting

with a  4 string CGB, finding timber that is the right size is not easy

or knowing which type of timber to use is daunting, I have to get over

the thoughts of my guitar has to be perfect, and go for it and learn from

the many mistakes I am going to came across. You guys are very helpful

thank you, all of you, Happy New Year to everyone.

Spot on Great Idea Ill have to get something done BUT I dont have a electric Miter saw  I have hand tools 

to work with

That's the way I've done mine for awhile, but I didn't have the jig. It's probably a good idea fro me to finally make the jig.

I make my necks out of Red Oak. You need to not rush the cut on the harder woods because the blade can start cutting at an angle with too much force.

Old thread, still good info to resurrect for the new guy, one piece of advice, when gluing the 2 back together, use another piece of wood to clamp against to aid in the shorter cut piece glue up where it's the thinnest, wipe of excess glue right away to prevent third piece from sticking.

Lately I've been dry fitting the pieces together, clamp and drill 2 holes for short wood screws(don't want to go through on the bottom piece), take apart and apply glue. Put the 2 pieces back together and screw them together tight(this negates the use of clamps in awkward positions). After the glue dries, remove the screws, drill the holes to 1/4" and glue in 1/4" dowels. After that dries you trim cut and sand, then your ready for the next step and the dowels add some strength to the scarf joint.

Yes you do have to be careful where your drilling. I got those a little too close to the edge of the neck. You don't want the screws too close to the edge or too close to the middle if your going to have a trussrod.

These pics show how the dowels ended up right on the edge of the neck.
