Thanks Maddog.  Makes sense.  I'll do that sometime.

Thanks Wes! Ya old drum catcher ;-)

Also, when you hammer the lids like this it stretches the metal and gives it a little higher and more distinct sound. More reso/banjo in my opinion. Plus they look kinda cool too  :-)

It's the lid of a gallon size bean can Andy. I have a jig that I place the lid in so just the outside lip rest on th edge of the jig and then hammer it's shape with a ball peen hammer. It takes a little finesse so as to not hit the lip or the center of the lid and a LOT of smacks (not really smacks, more like taps) with the hammer to get to the outcome you see.

So (forgive my not-knowing, IOW ignorance) the reso is a can, a whole bean can, that you hammered into its current shape?  So, how did you hammer it into that shape without breaking or splitting it?

Thanks John! The tailpiece was actually a brand new tablespoon when I started, some heat and smacks with the forging hammer and boom...old :-)

I like the sound from hammering out the reso, gives it a banjoish sound. And EVERYONE loves the banjo right???  Well I do anyways ;-)

River was calm even with a stiff breeze. Put the boat away for winter otherwise I might of went out next few days. :-(

Nice git,  Nice rusty-assed tail.   The river looks calming and good.

If people knew how good your hammered bean can resos sound, they would be begging you to hammer and sell them some.  I had one on an old factory built git that I converted to a Maddog reso.  I regret letting it leave my hands, but the new owner is pleased.
