i have tried guitar rig 5. very impressive noises come out of the speakers.... and it has lots of effects to add as well.  not cheap though. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/guitar/guit...

i use it with a real tone cable that i got with my Rocksmith game. its a shame that rocksmith doesnt have a jam mode.. where you can try different rigs and just play along... it gives you a tone relevant to the song you are playing/learning/gaming.

EDIT: the cable is a 1/4"jack to USB cable. i last used it on a HP elite X2 tablet/PC and had to install the ASIO4ALL driver for the cable.

have tried some of the iphone and android phone apps but could never get them to work.  i did buy the irig from ebay and im pretty sure it was not working properly.

I'm completely new to this electricity stuff. Finally got it to play through the computer with no new software. Way to much string noise. Is this likely due to the unpadded piezo stuck under the bridge?

depends on the type of noise, a piezo pickup is a bit hot for the mic input on a computer, and unpadded piezos are notorious for picking up handling noise and wound-string-sliding noises.

Last night, I took one of those thick felt thingies you stick under furniture legs and stuck it over the piezo. Much better.

Scuffham S-Gear is really good. Not cheap, but you can get some nice sounds out of it.
Responds more like a real amp than other amp sims that I have tried.
