My question is straight forward for any of you that do market places or shows to sell your guitars. How many guitars do you bring with you to do a show? Thanks for all who answer.Continue

Tony - i have not had to pay duty ever on anything from Gitty. My largest order ever was $170US. If you don't mind my asking, under what condition did they ask you pay duty? and are you any relation to Steven? ;-)

Comment by Tom Talarico on October 25, 2017 at 5:26am

I too would prefer Gitty but exchange on the dollar, pricey shipping and having to pay duty at times makes it unreasonable. I use amazon now and have had good luck with a seller called BQLZR Items usually arrive early and decently priced and free shipping.

I'd love to order more from Gitty but the exchange and 'shipping' is brutal to say the least.

So like most I have to order mostly from China.  I have a few suppliers of materials I buy from out of China, always had great service and pretty reliable deliveries.  I buy fret wire in 10 - 20 meter rolls instead of 2 - 3 meters.  Even tuners I buy bulk and they are the same as Gitty's.

Like Dead Head stated you just have to plan ahead knowing your order can take 4 - 6 weeks to arrive, here in BC.  I get most of my supplies from Fleabay suppliers.

Boxes are getting tougher to get, so I'm going to start building my own soon.  Plus the cigar shop I get my boxes from says boxes won't be available much longer.  Seems our wonderful Tater Tot thinks all cigar boxes should be the same size, shape and color.  Which they are 'supposed' to be implementing sometime next year  Comforting to know our dear leaders have priorities in making our country safe and secure...  sarcasm off...

If don't mind waiting 6 - 10 weeks and you don't mind that it comes from China (but i bet most of the stuff sold in USA is made in china anyway) then alibaba is your best bet for bulk screws and small accessories etc .. don't buy the tone or volume pots though cause they suck (the ones I've tried anyways have) but you can get good pick ups for cheap! Shipping is usually free too. I recommend getting good fretwire and volume tone caps from a reputable USA dealer though if quality is a concern

I hear you Peggy I have knocked my brains out trying to find alternatives to US exchange and shipping - there are a few - dollar stores - I have scored a bag of 3/4 inch grommets and a bag of very small ferrules at dollar stores and still haunt them fir anything useful; amazon - with free shipping to Canada by some I've found a few inexpensive magnetic pickups BQLZR; fret wire - a little more expensive than US ordering but if you can walk to the shop George Heinl in Toronto - they do primarily violin sales and repairs but also sell all types of fret wire - as a treat their showroom looks like something of a 1920s movie loaded with violins and cellos; I still buy a fair amount from CBGitty - I know I'm getting good stuff and when there were product issues their service was excellent. Cigar boxes - cigar stores if they are willing to part with them at a reasonable price or do not donate them to the local grade schools. Alternative is craft boxes from Michaels using their 50% off coupon. Sadly I find even Gitty runs out of boxes I'd like to have.

Hi Peggy, I know Lee Valley is starting to carry those supplies, not sure if they will have everything you would need.

Does anyone know a good source of cigar box guitar building supplies here in Canada. I find it can get quite costly ordering from the US.   Looking for items like ferrules,  brass grommets  etc.

Hi all - Mark from Guelph here.  "Old Joe" let me know about this group.  Still exploring the site (when do you use discussion group vs comment wall anyway?) but hope to hear about all things Canadian and Cigar-y!

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

pete - i'd get one  up  . it's pretty  easy  to set up a free site  ,   and in my opinion  it is invaluable .  you need a place to showcase your  wares /sound demos   etc ..  . and a link  to  it  to  pass on to  folks  on  sites such as this  .

i sell alot  . most of my  sales come from my site and  of course the folks here  .
