Cigar Box Guitar Porch Picking Roan Mountain, TN

Hey all, it's been a while since I posted. You guys were very encouraging when I when I first posted the blues lick I'm using here when I was first working on it. I promised to try to build it out some more, and it's become a go-to for me when I'm noodling around. I've had some fun looping it and trying to improvise over top. I need to work on my timing and my guitar face (I look bored and/or angry when I'm concentrating! }:^0 ). I also didn't think about rounding out the end with the looper. Maybe one of these days I'll bore you guys with guys with yet another rendition of this same jam but a bit more polished. I recorded this one on my phone while I was on vacation this summer.

This guitar is a favorite of mine. It's my first short scale build - 23". I used a zero fret & hard tail bridge. The action is great, and it's very smooth to play. I recently sold it, and now I need to build another player for myself to keep. That's a good 'problem' to have I suppose. :)

I hope everyone is doing well. Out of the blue I got struck with pancreatitis. I've been seriously ill for the last month, and I'm finally starting to feel myself again. It's a relief! I'm still moving slow, but things are getting better. Keep on keepin' on.

Hi Janis yup sometimes life can throw us a loop or two er three....hang in there it will get better as it goes... it takes time for the body to recover from any illness and to learn its not the same as it was before it hit you...love the setting and music! James & Dennis, thank you for the kind words. It's very encouraging. :) I've been happy that I've been able to play guitar while I'm sick. It's is one of the only activities I love doing that I've been able to during this illness along with reading and watching tv.

Hi Richard - thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one without a cool game face when I'm playing. :P Hahaha! Man, I tell you what, this illness has had me totally out of commission for over a month. Just when I think I'm doing much better I have some issues. Hopefully they are just little bumps in the road to recovery.

Nice to see you back and playing so very well. Very nice relaxing piece, and some nice blues chops on lead! No problem with your guitar playing face, I look constipated when I'm concentrating on playing. Children cry ha! Look forward to more music from you. I'm glad to hear your on the upswing and getting better.

Thank you Snuffy & Derek. :) I used a Snake Oil humbucker in this one with just volume control, and I'm really happy with the tone. It's quite nice with that little Micro Cube amp. Those are versatile pickups. They can get really rowdy with gain, and they sound really nice clean as well - not too thin or chimey. I originally used a bolt for the bridge on this one, but the sustain was really lacking & the tone was a little banjo-ish. I added the hard tail bridge, and it came alive sonically. I kept the string through neck set up with the hard tail bridge for a nod to CBG tradition. The end design was definitely motivated by tone not by tradition.
