This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

cheers Paul i will look into that.the strings it came with were really thin but did tune to standard pitch and intonation down the frets seemed good. thats why i thought i might try to salvage it.

we have a toys r us here in Aust so hoping its similar to Kids r us.

If they have an aisle with instruments on it, then they should have strings.

If you got it to tune to pitch, your good.

i suppose the option is always to make it acoustic and use nylon classical strings. still its a stalled project until i find the "right" box for the neck...

If you still have the body, you could cut out a section for a Reso cone, paint can lid or similar.  19.7" is  good for Mandola strings or Octave Mandolin scale, just 6 strings instead of 8 or 10.

You could make a box or use something like a silverware box/jewelry box if you can't find the right size. Lots of options out there.

been around to most of the local op shops but seems someone around here has beaten me to all the good boxes. building one is not an option at the moment, i dont have the space or the tools to make a good box. i could make a bad box easy enough but i think the neck deserves a decent go..lol

had a look at gitty's laser cut box but the shipping for one box is twice the price of the kit.  thats nearly $50 AUD so its not an option either. no rush the neck isnt going anywhere and i am still learning how to play on the canjo with dulcimer fretting.. its just weird, so many missing frets...lol

probably no real help, but I calculated just under $30AUD from my location to Australia first class postage for large box, not including cost of item

Wow, i just checked and it would be 75 us for a single box!

yep boxes from the US to Aus is crazy, unless you can get progressively smaller boxes that fit inside each other, starting with an EXTRA big box, depending where you are though some cigar vendors are pretty good, Devlin's in Melbourne have shipped to me in the past at a cost of around 20 bucks for 4 boxes inside each other

cost me $22.75 US dollars

any wine shops around ?  dont discount wine boxes  , tins . chest or drawers  , door skins , silverware boxes ,  etc etc ..

Good alternatives there.

Holy humidor Batman, I checked eBay.com.au to see what kind of prices you could buy locally, and what you would pay for one decent decorative box, I could buy a dozen for what people are charging, people think they have gold for sale over there for just a used box.
