Today is the last day of my time off work and I needed something to do and drinking wasn't an option today. So I built me a pair of Diddley Bow Canjo's out of a pair of Cookie Tins and a broom handle I cut in half.

I have given both a Piezo pickup glued to the middle of the tin lid and used the left over cut offs from the neck for a bridge. both have a 46 gauge string which holds the bridge in place.

I think I made them a little short though, both have a scale of 22 inches.

What you guys think?

Looking good, and a Diddley Bow is never in the wrong scale

It might be the picture angle, but it looks like the string drifts to the side off the neck completely as it goes toward the bridge & tail piece, that might make it a bit hard to play, or its just my monitor, lol

Good to know the scale can't be wrong.

You're not seeing the pictures wrong the string does sit like that. its the hinge I use as a tail piece, the can't stop on top, its either over to the left or the right. If I fitted another machine head, another screw for a nut and a second string, it'd look better, but the single string image won't sit right in the mind, but plays comfortably.

Scale is the length between the nut and bridge whether you have frets or not. Each scale length will determine where the individual notes are located, you can mark the spots with a marker if you want to help with playing or not. Enjoy

I've had a couple days to get used to both of them now and have the positioning about right.

I tend not to mention beyond the 12th fret area. I good number of riffs that work on a single string and since this is a 46 gauge I play both guitar and bass riffs on it quite nicely.

Mannish Boy is definitely my favourite one to do, I just do the riff and moan my blues through the night.

Those are both nice looking gits.

Thank you Frog, they are good little players, already working on a dozen more of them.

I have updates people, I am loving these things, but I am afraid one of them is gone now, where I cannot say (I can't remember the address of where) and I am left with one to sit with and moan my blues, but this is gonna change.

I have many more of these tins and have eaten far too many Butter Cookies and will be building a lot more of them on my next holiday.

Until then, I still have the one to sit and play. been working on Hoochie Coochie Man and Mannish Boy much more and making up a lot of weird ass lyrics to go with them. a Diddley Bow is a far to fun.

well can't wait to see your next one. awesome !!!

Nice looking gits, is there a reason you mounted the strings offset instead of centered down the neck? nevermind, saw the answer in an earlier reply.

The strings are offset that way in case the new owners want to add a second machine head and string. That is the reason I also use hinges with 2 holes on them, secondary string anchor.
