This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?
I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.
A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

You'll definitely need a trussrod for the neck. I would suggest a non-adjustable rod for the trough piece too. Pine and Poplar tend to bend under pressure when it comes to 4 or more strings. I used a piece of Pine for the through piece and neck on my 1st 4 string that had to be redone because of bending under string pressure. 3 strings would most likely work just fine, but 4 or more is just too much.
Never had this dilemma before, I now have enough supplies to make just about anything...after finishing up this 4 string, it's either onto a couple Can-jo's or Banjourine, ore another 3 or 4 string or both, damn, maybe a 4 way simultaneous build, necks first, bodies, then individual finishing. My brother is even donating a load of parts and a complete guitar for parts, so a custom solid body is in the works sometime in the near future. And, wife says I'm making my step son a Zelda themed 3 string for Christmas.....is it really getting to be that time already?! Too little time too much work, I'm never going to play one of these Arghhhhhhhhhhhh
pics to follow throughout the year
wait a sec...what about a res?? My brain is going to explode
That's the problem I find I have. Even when I'm in the process of building one git, I'm thinking ahead to other projects that I want to build. It's like having A.D.D. but only when I build.
Blues Frog Quote;(It's like having A.D.D.)
you mean, it's like having....wait for it....GDg lol, I know, that was bad.
Build them all. LOL
I thinking about building a Octave Mandolin or a Mandocello. Then my brain went to: Should I make it a Reso? Maybe a Mandocello Resonator Banjo. Hahaha
Well Played. Oh wait, there's another pun........
I like it. The flat pickup is something I have yet to build, but it's another projects where parts are on the bench.
Where do you guys buy your flat pickup? I see they start around $35 on eBay.
Side note, I have a 50mm round piezo style pickup, man that thing is hot, I tested to make sure it's good, using my 30a Marshal and I think they could hear me in the next state just tapping on it, it needs some muffling cushion, will still be loud, but without it, has feedback squeal. Should work great in my latest build.
I got mine from Wishbringer Music(former member Wayfinder), but there's a few members here that wind these.
Piezos are touch sensitive giving handling noise. You can soften that by mounting them with double sided tape or on a bed of hot glue.
They also have a high impedance compared to pickups and usually require high value pots. I use 1meg pots for a single piezo or 500k for paired piezos in parallel(cuts down on the impedance).
canjo i knocked up this afternoon still got to glue on some frets. using up the last of the split pins i bought. work great as frets.
the other neck is almost finished just added the brass screw markers, then just a touchup sand ans clear coat it. still trying to decide on what pickup to pop in. think i will stick to the induction one, just got to pull my finger out and finish it.
Picked up a kids electric guitar a month ago and saved the pickup, volume and jack. neck is ok but tuners were garbage. got some on order to replace them just need to find a box suitable enough... been a fun weekend tinkering!
