Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia. I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

Don't worry Ken, it's not addictive. Just don't try to quit. The withdrawals are unbearable. Have fun, you will start looking at everything with a "what could I build with that" attitude.
Well I'm new to the group. I saw a Youtube of some guy palying a cigar box guitar and I thought it would be fun to make. I made my first one and it turned out pretty good. Before I could stop myself me and my boys were doing nothing but making guitar, talking about cigar box guitars and learning to play them. my current project is a ukulele. I've got plans in the works to make a violin next. Things started out with one cigar box about 3 months ago. Now I'm up to 8 guitars and a box collection of over 100 boxes.
welcome this is a great site
Greetings all,
I first saw a cigar box guitar at a WOMAD stall a couple of years ago and thought "I could do that" not realising how difficult cigar boxes are to find in New Zealand. As a result my first build was a biscuit tin with a matai floorboard neck and a sink drain sound hole.
I'm improving little by little, but it's a slow process. I still can't play though.
Good Luck Richard. Welcome to the nation!
Welcome bigmcgiv, you can learn a great deal on this site and many people here can/will help if asked.
im from Columbia,sc
well I haven't formally introduced myself. I am Matt. I have built 2 so far and a suitcase amp. in the process to build 2 more for friends. they are not the conventional 3 and 4 stings. I did a six string guitar and a 4 string bass with mfg used necks.so will the 2 im currently doing. I would like to do a 4 string guitar for myself and learn it.
