Homemade Violin Plays! from Joseph Edwards on Vimeo.

I went to the music store to buy a bow for the fiddle I made. A lady asked if she could play it and her son videos it for me. You may need to copy and paste the link into your browser. Rose

Mark, you're absolutely right.  The difficulty level was probably my top reason for awarding her 1st place.  Not only is it mindblowing that she handmade this classic folk art fiddle...but she also did it all from a dang plank of 2x4.

CONGRATULATIONS, ROSE!  You deserve this!  Gitty will be contacting you shortly with info on your prize.  Now go brag and strut because you earned it!

Yup I agree 100% I can vouch for how hard it is to make a decent fiddle from ANYTHING! and Rose nailed it with this one.

Jim I listened to your 2x4 fiddle (3 times) you got tremendous sound from the sound box you made. Amazing!!!!

Thanks Rose. I appreciate that coming from the FIRST PLACE WINNER! I've made over 200 instruments of just about every kind and fiddles are always the biggest challenge for me.

Perspective: I've participated and monitored this site since before the move to this platform, and back when Gitty was just getting going.

IMO, based on what I am seeing this is the most deserving winner of any contest ever done here.

Rose, I do hope you will share any build info, drawings, tips etc. with the group. I look forward to it.

When I get my drawing done I will upload them, thanks for your kind words. Smiley face
Thanks so much, there was some really awesome entry's. I was wowed by them. I kept thinking look at what these crazy music makers have done. Wow. I think if you can build an instrument from a 2x4 that works you won. Not very many people would attempt it. There were so many winners in this contest. Thank you so much. (wanted to hear them all, the ones I got to hear had me amazed, just amazed) thanks for letting me be apart of your fantastic group!!!!

LOL!

Following along I kept wondering where ya'll get your 2X4's.

I haven't seen much that isn't pre-warped, pre-split and full of knots in a long time. And I've handled some quantity of rough lumber........

Thought it a tad silly until I saw some of the results. Very excited about Roses fiddle though.

Its hard enough sometimes to find half decent furniture or instrument grade lumber most of the time. Kudo's to every effort.

Awesome job.

Thanks Paul

NIce work Rose.  I look forward to your improved plans.  Please publish them.

Uncle Fred

will do. Right now they are full scale. I'm thinking Of getter ng with a few fiddle makers and making sure they are correct then for sure I will make them available to all.
