Shane Speal showed us a new (to me anyway) tuning this week and a few of us have been messing with it. I tried to work out some minor chords and 7th chords i...

You and Shane have just convinced me to restring a guitar eeb. I've been looking for a bit of a challenge. I'm still learning GDg and bought the CBG book by Brent but it would be nice to chill from learning now and then and have at this eeb stuff. Thanks again and thanks again Shane too.

Thanks Dani and Bear.I was trying to avoid a talk on chord theory but since you asked....... most CBG tunings are what's often called a "power chord" like GDg. Those notes are 1,5,1 if you count notes on the major scale. D is the 5th note of a G scale. To make a chord major or minor we need the 3rd note of the scale which is the note b in this case. With a b natural in that GDg setting you've got a G major chord. To make it a G minor you flat that 3rd note so G bflat d makes a G minor chord. If this doesn't confuse you enough I can go into more detail but that's it in a nutshell.

Hope it helps? Only massively! So, on the same theme, would sounding out the major full chord be on the fourth? Forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong please. Still very much learning this stuff. Thanks, Jim, and thanks Shane too.

Oh Wes, I know for a fact you have a banjo that you don't hold slideways in your lap so don't never say never! Hmmmm... is that a triple negative? And thanks!

Thanks AGP. I sometimes slip into theory jargon and often have to remind myself to just explain where to put your fingers. I was forced at an early age to learn music theory but many great players don't "know" any of it and play intuitively. I'm always in awe (and jealous) of people like that.

"Well Done Jim", very helpful, and easily explained for us "non savvy" music theory players :-)

Cool Shane! I plan to keep this guitar in Eeb so I can work with it some more. Thanks for posting lessons and ideas like this.
