I've built with piezo's and mag's. Getting ready to experiment with them as a combo. I would like some opinions on sound, piezo placement, tone / vol. control and switching and anything else that might be useful.

Thanks James. Looks like its gonna be select one or the other unless an active circuit is added for the Piezo.

I am wanting to do the same thing but I was going to use a 5 way switch , but I can't find any schematics for the wiring .

From what I have come across is without the pre-amp the mag pickup will be dominant and turn your piezo into a speaker .

Hi Rob! Thanks for the input. I'm curious as to if one can get an effective mix with separate vol. pots without going to a preamp for the Piezo or what this mix offers different from the preamp.

Hi Ted, i have not built anything with both, BUT i own an Yamaha AEX 500. Which has already both - Humbi and Piezo. It has 2 extra controls: 1 active 9V (usully found on acoustic guitars) for the piezo and passiv volume and tone knobs for the humbucker. The piezo is under the bridge like acoustig guitars have it, the Humbi is in neck position. BTW, its a hollowbody guitar.

How does it sound: obviously you have the option to mix both together in any way ...... clean sound not so harsh due to impact from Humbi, lot of clear hights if you want mixing piezo to Hubi under distortion. For me, most versatile guitar i ever have played.

best wishes from Austria ....
