I've decided that my old method of making scarf joints was too time consuming and required too much measuring. So I went to the drawing board! Here is what I came up with.

Now, I don't have to measure a single thing. I don't need to adjust my fence. I don't need to dig out any clamps. All I do is slide the neck blank up to the stop and turn the cam-clamp and it's ready to cut. The whole thing slides in a slot on the table, so it's perfectly located as soon as I put it on the table. I end up with a head length exactly where I want it to be.

After I glue up the joint and it dries, I'll put it back in this jig. You'll see a small block just above the cam-clamp. The backside of the guitar head will rest against that block....tighten the clamp and push it through the blade. And just like that, the head thickness is exactly 9/16" thick and I never had to measure a thing!

I think I'll get some real good use out of this!!!

I couldn't live without my table saw....and drill...and jig saw...and compressor...and sander....and router table. If I can't create, what am I here for....

Thanks Derek and Darryl!

I actually design stuff as my job, but not this kind of stuff. I like to watch videos of jigs people come up with to make tasks easier. I've looked for a good easy jig for doing this joint. I found some, but the good ones seemed to require a trip to the store for something that wasn't already laying around. This was all made from scraps. I haven't officially used it yet, but I cut a pine board with it and I couldn't ask for a more perfect cut. With my old jig, I didn't always get a perfectly square edge at the end of the board after the cut....close but not square. This will be square every time, and I won't even have to try very.
