Great John!  Glad you solved the issue!   I have a Les Paul style arrangement on a cool Cohiba box that has a definite growling sound.  Strangely, I kind of appreciate nit, but it comes and goes depending on how the guitar is held.  Also, if I pressed a finger on the neck humbucker, it would go away.  It was also really tight fitting, so I opened it up, similar to what you did.  I may look into the silicon mat to help further....   Rev

Thanks to Gary ( Rev.Bluejeans) and Rick, i have solved the issue of muddy harmonies , which i generalised as sustain .Yes ..the culprit was the license plate indeed .It was too much of a snug fit around the pickup .After reading your suggestions , I undid the parts and took out the plate to widen the gap for the pickup as well as for the bridge saddle. Both were transmitting vibrations all over the license plate .I placed thin silicone matting under the plate for vibe insulation too .Now I'm happy with the results .When i tap on the plate , the sound is not going thru to the amp anymore .Thanks very much gentlemen ! Salutations to King Shane also.

Very cool looking build! You might want to try a bridge saddle made from a piece of hardwood, bone, or something other than brass or steel.

Hmmmmmm, excess sustain....?  I wonder if there would be a way to 'dampen' the plate, vibrationally speaking?  That's assuming that the sustain issue results from the plate continuing to resonate which gets picked up through the pickup?  If you lay your hand directly on the plate, does the excess sustain improve?  If so, you may be able to add some internal bracing directly to the backside of the plate, possibly holding it in place with silicon adhesive or something equally 'rubbery'?

Looks fantastic in full size.   Love the wood grain in the peg head.   The squish factor:  3 theories.   1.  Load from a computer not a phone.   2. Straight on shots may distort less often than angled shots.   3.  Stand on your left foot and hum jingle bells when you upload.
