I've looked back through my posts but can't find who sent me link to buy this amp board, so I have it , came w/o any instructions and two of the connections are only marked in Chinese. Any help on how to use this as  a CBG amp would be appreciated!

here is where it came from> http://www.ebay.com/itm/131832286247?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&a...

Rather than screwing around with the board, can I make an adapter, like wire a 1/4" mono jack to a 3.5mm stereo plug, and plug it in, so I don't chance frying something with my soldering iron?

yes. just join the L and R from the stereo plug and connect to the tip of the 1/4 jack. ground to ground... easy.

Google translate does a pretty good job.  Even a photo of text on a phone can translate pretty good, usually enough to get the point across.

I'd be curious to see any builds with this amp, I ordered one a few weeks ago, probably after seeing the same post you refer to.  I am thinking a twin speaker cigar box, I have a couple pc speakers that might work for donors.

not sure if you are still working with this amp or not but I have this same amp by a different seller.  go to amazon and search for DROK amp.  It's the same amp but all of the markings are in english.  It even shows a pic with everything marked up.  I had this laying around and tried to use it for a guitar amp as well but like Timothy Hunter said, I don't get much volume at all when hooked up to my CBG.  It works great with an MP3 player/phone though.  Looks like i need a pre amp

been looking for a cheap prebuilt preamp that would work with this kind of amp but not had much luck. might have to design something myself and design simple circuit board for it. something with about 10 x gain should do it . should there be a tone circuit on there too? or just a clean boost to drive these amps?

You don't need a preamp with this board. I have built an amp with it (see my videos ... Hmmm. I just went there and the video, did, not, pull up. I,hope it is just a using a tablet issue.).

1. I kept it dual channel but I mixed the channels before it hits the amp. So a guitar playing on either jack goes to both channels.

2. I kept a two speaker output. I did not try to add the channel signals together at the speaker end to,just use one speaker. From what I have read, if you are already combining channels before the amp and sending through both channels, recombining at the other end should not be a problem at the speaker. Otherwise there can be problems.

3. This amp is designed and made for automobile use. I just picked up a couple of cheap 6" x9" auto speakers for about $8.00 each. That is what it is made to drive. Don't over think it.

4. I am getting a really nice mellow sund with this thing. It is not clipping due to impedance issues. It is not that loud however.

5. You will need a power supply aka a wall wart or a twelve volt battery. You want a switching power supply not a plain transformer. You are powering two separate 15 watt channels. The power supply must produce 30 watts or more to give full power. This translates to 12 volt Dc output of at least 2.5 amps. 12 volts x 2.5 amps = 30 watts.

6. Because it is a full ramge audio amp,it should also be good for a rod, piezo with a preamp and equalizer aka acoustic guitar amp.

7. I am playing it with a 4 string cbg with a 750 kOhm 4 pole bass pickup. This is about equivalent to a humbucker or P90. So it is high impedance. I tried putting a mic on the second channel. This was a low impedance dynamic mike. Because the mic impedance was low, it sucked the juice to that side and left the guitar side pretty soft. So if you want to use it like a busker's amp with both mic and instrument, you will have to play around with your imstrument and mike to try to get some sort of match. Probably a really cheap high impedance mic would work best.br />

I use mine almost every day, playing in the house. I can get a good sound without deafening people.

Hope this helps.

David your point #4 is exactly why these amps need a preamp! they are designed to use a line level input which is about 1V peak to peak.  a guitar only outputs 0.1 to 0.4 V peak to peak . the result is that the amp is not driven to full volume ever.

Ahh ... Thank you. My great fear was the amp was set for a low impedance input load and would heavilly clip and distort with a high impedance pickup. I had that with a couple of kit amps built from scratch. So, boost the line level and get 15 watts per channel of goodness. Before, especially with piezo disks, I was attempting to use preamps for impedance matching, not gain.
At Timothy Hunter if he is listening.... Have you been able to find some recommended preamp or preMp and tone control boards. I would love to try another amp using this amp board. But there is also a board by the same people that will run 35w per channel. I can also find passive tone boards and a reverb board. If I deal with the preamp thing, the world could be mine for $39.99 :-)

found this preamp on ebay last night...http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191932927311?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l264...

this amp board looks good as well... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/232157503355?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l264...

but this is actually a knock off of the amp board kit i built to rejuvinate and old marathon amp . http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191736193169?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l264...

all prices are in AUD so could be cheaper in USD. dont let the chinglish on the last one fool you . it is a 20W mono amp. it does need a -25V,Grnd.+25V power supply though... but thems are real RMS watts not the fake PMPO watts most chinese audio stuff sprouts..

i need to look further into the first preamp but it looks like a simple bass, trebble volume unit.

I was thinking of going this route https://www.cbgitty.com/news/easy-diy-preamp-makes-piezoequipped-ci...

I will use the 2 channel amp and use a 4" sub and 2" mid that i picked up for $5 at Goodwill.  I will probably need to build an enclosure, probably cant find a cigar box to fit both speakers. Or i could use this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191932927311?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l264... (thanks Timothy Hunter) and build it into the enclosure.  since it it 12V i could use the same power supply to run the amp and the preamp.

those types of preamp were meant to be installed in the guitar itself. no reason you couldnt put one in the CBG. the CBGitty idea has versatility to it though. keep it in your gig bag and use it if needed...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Complete-Kit-EQ-Pre-Amp-plus-Pickup-for-... has the battery compartment in the box ,has prewired jack and comes with a rod piezo pickup...  might have to look into getting on of these next payday.....
