I really started working on it.

I cut the box to fit the neck on both ends.
Will then decide on how I do the headstock, make it, then will glue the freboard.

I want to keep it simple, but do what it needs to play well and sound good.

More to come

It wouldn't be the same if I didn't over think it. I'd probably build a guitar over the weekend if I stuck with the original idea, and then I'd have to start the next one. Sometimes its a good thing.....

Right on...

That's why I bought the first one instead of building it.
Not perfect, but it does the job while I'm working on a better one.

Looks great.

Sound holes - I've done 1 large(2") on a git between the neck and bridge and I've done 2 (3/4") one on each side of the strings near the neck. Both seem to have the same volume level. Some say that F holes are better, but I haven't heard a notable difference yet. Do what you want/like. Start small and enlarge at small increments. Once you get too big, you start to loose volume.

Thanks for your suggestions...

I ended up drilling two 1 1/2" holes, one each side of the neck. I will do some tests when it's finished and will add rings if I feel the need to make the holes smaller.

I built only 1 Thinline with a F hole and it sounds thin. But it could be because of something else. Someday, I still need to work on some of these Tele builds that don't sound the way I expected. I had to put everything on hold because of health problems 7 years ago and just began to have more interest in guitars after trying a 4 strings cigar box...

And btw, you were right, I checking what I can use in my stuff for the electronics, I realised that I still liked it... Cool

I will post a picture of the progress a bit later after a break.

A Thinline Tele is going to have a small amount of acoustic volume because it's thin. Acoustic sound chambers need to be tall for those sound waves to arc closer together to build intensity. Thin chambers have a wide short arc that travels faster to the sound hole and out with considerably less intensity.

Like comparing a ES335 to a ES175 Jazz Box unplugged. Or a OOO Dreadnought to a childs thin acoustic guitar. Chamber space makes all the difference. Pickups help the thin body guitars measure up, but can only enhance what they have to work with in the first place.

Here it is with holes and knobs added.
I found some gold knobs that I didn't remember having in my stuff.

I need now to install a jack tomorrow...

It's looking good. You'll have a lot of fun with that.

Still working on the box while doing some homework like storing the BBQ etc... because summer is finished here in Quebec...

So today, I glued a picture on the back of the box to make it a Blues guitar.

The picture is from https://www.facebook.com/Country-Blues-Images-731798076848581/
It's a nice place to post or see a lot of nice things about Blues and more.

I gave a first coat of Lacquer for protection. I already bagan to apply Lacquer on the box and will do the same on the back of the neck.

I can't stop myself from working on details... :-)

That's nice.

Thanks guys,
My wife just told me that it would have been nice on the front too. But It is an after though decision because I like the wood on the front, but the back was missing something.
I can hang it on the wall any side now...

That's a great pic.

Well... I changed my mind many times before I ended up with this on the back of the guitar.

I had problems with the first tries with the original picture.

So I decided to use my wood burner with a skull design and add some color.
Everything went well... until I used lacquer for the finish. Was doing the job, but the smell was too strong, now that I have to do it at home, being retired and not having access to a paint shop now...

I had to use Shellac instead.

Now that it's done, I should be able to finish the headstock.

I wanted to do it simple but... couldn't stop myself from adding some details.

Here is the back of the guitar.
