I really started working on it.

I cut the box to fit the neck on both ends.
Will then decide on how I do the headstock, make it, then will glue the freboard.

I want to keep it simple, but do what it needs to play well and sound good.

More to come

Btw, I prefer to put the joint in the headstock because I find it easier to hide it and reinforce it. And I don't like to see the joint at the back of the neck.

And with the same piece of wood, the headstock is longer when glues that way.

Now, I have to decide on how to add reinforcement under the neck and where the bridge will be.

I responded to the earlier post before seeing this one. DOH

LOL, I knew it wasn't what you meant about the direction of the joint. I realized that when I added the screws. And I realized that I cut the headstock too short to use the first option, under the fretboard.

I would use your way with a larger piece of wood to make a fancy headstock though...

It still works.

I started using 1"x2" boards( actually 3/4"x1&1/2") for the neck and using 1"x4" boards(actually 3/4"x 3&1/2") for the headstock so I don't have to add wings.

Today, I worked on the box itself.

Here are some photos to explain how I'm doing it.

Please note that I am improvising and fixing issues as they come. So I am experimenting and learning from this first cbg build.

I realized after making the cuts in the box for the neck that I should have placed the neck higher. I forgot about the top of the box which I will add later...

So I will use a router to make a frame on each side of the neck, the thickness of the top which will be 1/4"

The top will be in 2 parts, and flush with the neck to keep the fretboard above the box.

In the end, I like the idea.

Now, I know it will not be that loud acoustically. But I am more interested in a good tone with a pickup when played in a Blues Jam.

I have one question though...

Should I take some wood from the bottom of the neck, in the part that is inside the box, to help the back to resonate a bit.

???

No. The top is responsible for most of the resonance. Since the top is 1/4" thick, It won't be giving a lot of resonance.

If you have a planer, you could take the top down to 1/8th" for better results or do what I did with a build. I used a router to take down the inside area of the top down to 1/8th".

When having the thin top, the bridge needs to be long to disperse the string pressure over a large area or there needs to be a block under the bridge that goes all the way from the top to the bottom. The tone block as it's called gives the top the support it needs and adds sustain, but takes away the woody tone and some acoustic volume.

Hey, great info there... Just what I needed.

I don't have a planer, but can use a router for that.

So if I understand well, I could add a tone block under the top where I will put the bridge, and drop the thickness of the top down to 1/8" everywhere else.

I'm ready to trade some acoustic sound for more sustain.

I will glue the fretboard later today and will make a drawing for the bridge. I also bought some open tuners for the headstock today and a few more things.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, it's really appreciated.
