I should add, I meant tunings for blues the vast, vast majority of the time . Thanks again.

I've realised I'm not of a temperament to sit for hours and painstakingly learn someone else's song(s). With this in mind , what six string tuning would you recommend for improvising on (a) an electric guitar and  (b) an acoustic six string parlor size without any pickup? Maybe open dadf#ad for the electric and dgdgbd for the acoustic? The other way around? Something else? I don't mind taking a string, or even two, off and using a four string tuning if you have other recommendations but I can just build a four maybe . Already got two nearly built so maybe I should just make the most of having these sixers . I appreciate your help. Cheers :)

I think the video will help loads. Much appreciated for the help and for your time too. I'll look forward to the video! Thanks again Pavlov.

I for one would like a video on it if you have time Pavlov. Sounds like mountain dulcimer tuning but are you tuning your two bass strings to D? I might be reading it wrong but ddad as opposed to dadd sounds like you mean your two bass. Are they octaves or double up at the same octave? Are you using strings from the same set and if so which ones? Lots to learn and a video is always supersized helpful.

Pavlov,

Thanks, man. Those are some great tabs. Gotta' go practice...

Thanks guys. Very encouraging to hear your accounts of having struggled with the same thing but now moved on. I really appreciate you both taking the time.

Wipe on, wipe off, wipe on, wipe off.

Thanks Pavlov. Your second statement says lots when you say learn the first two bars slowly for a few days. With me if I don't get it within ten minutes I tend to get bored and move on to practicing what I can already play. Short attention span I think. Interesting that you say the learn each part separately then put them together technique never helped you either. I do the bass line for ten minutes then try and add the melody but my bass line wants to go all squiffy haha. I'm going to try your suggestion in the link but as you say I think perseverence is the key. I couldn't hold a tune and keep it going when I thought about bringing in the slide at first but I got that down now. I'm not convinced my coordination is broken. Just my concentrater! Thanks for the help.

Well I'm personally really struggling with the coordination of the alternating bass and have been for ages. Not much you can do about my coordination though, unless you have the secret hints, tips, tricks and technique to unlock the skills. A book devoted to learning blues sounds like heaven. I'd love to see lessons in there for some blues mega hits. Some picking patterns would be good too, I feel it's another area I'm lacking in. Who am I kidding though? It's a book dedicated to learning to play the blues so I'm already going to buy it just from that! Keep up the awesome work Brent and thanks.

Thanks for your suggestions!  I will definitely put some effort into that.  I am just working on the "Blues Overload" book.  This will have lots more slide playing with the full book dedicated to blues. Please send along any suggestions you would like to see in the new book and any suggestions for future publications.  Thanks kindly, Brent.

That's an awesome idea TN Twang and I second it. Fretting instruments is a daunting prospect for some, including myself, and comes at an added cost for tools and supplies on an instrument born of poverty. I think it'd be a massive boon and another book I'd buy for sure.

Confused with open E scales on a three string. Is there a lack of info for a reason?
